This evening in Addis Ababa, Mauritania was unanimously elected chair of the 10th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, representing North Africa.
The chairmanship of the forum was handed over on behalf of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development to His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Anang Mamoudou. The forum is one of the important bodies of the African Union that is concerned with the development of the continent and exploring areas of cooperation between its member countries.
Namibia was elected first vice-chair, Chad second vice-chair, Uganda third vice-chair, and Niger rapporteur.
On this occasion, the minister delivered a speech in which he thanked the member states for the trust they had placed in Mauritania, stressing that our country's election to this position reflects the high level of trust enjoyed by His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic and President of the African Union on the African continent. He said that chairing this important African forum will give our country the opportunity to contribute to achieving the continent's goals in Agenda 2063 and to share its experience in working towards sustainable development with the rest of the continent.
The election of our country to chair this forum is a major success for Mauritanian diplomacy, as our country is now represented in many international forums.
