A workshop to design study plans for professional degrees in education kicked off Monday at the Higher School of Education.

The workshop aims to review the initial training of teachers at the Higher School of Education by preparing a plan for the training of teachers in education at the level of students who are interested in teaching.

At the opening of the workshop, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Yacoub Ould Amin, emphasized the importance of this workshop as an important step towards developing our education system and achieving the goals set by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in his program “My Ambition for the Nation,” as education is the main driver of development, the key to building the future, and the top priority of the youth mandate launched on August 1.

He said that this workshop is a starting point for the work of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Ajay in the field of education in general and higher education and scientific research in particular, and represents new steps to improve the quality of education, support its human resources, and enhance its knowledge and professional capabilities.

His Excellency the Minister announced that the 2024-2025 academic year will see the opening of professional courses in education, designed to train secondary school teachers. The most outstanding students enrolled in these programs in various disciplines will continue their studies in a professional master's program in education to become secondary school teachers, and the most outstanding among them will continue their studies to take the certification exams or enroll in a doctoral program in education sciences, so that they can qualify to teach and conduct research in higher education institutions.

He added that these courses will contribute to supporting various post-primary education levels with highly competent teaching staff who have received good academic and professional training that takes into account the specificities and needs of our educational system and provides valuable opportunities for our ambitious young people who seek to build a career in education.

His Excellency the Minister explained that, through the training courses for which the curriculum is being designed today, the sector seeks to qualify a new generation of outstanding teachers capable of providing high-quality, inspiring education that takes into account internationally recognized standards and keeps pace with the rapid developments in the learning and teaching process.

The Director General of the Higher School of Education, Mr. Hamoudi Ould Hamadi, had previously given a speech in which he highlighted that the school had adopted a new system of specialized training based on the acquisition of educational and professional skills and the mastery of academic courses, This allows it to provide our education system with highly qualified personnel who are ready to start teaching. These programs include intensive professional training covering teaching methods, classroom management, and modern teaching techniques.

He said that the minister's keenness to personally oversee the launch of this workshop demonstrates the importance that public authorities attach to education as a lever for economic, social, and scientific development that is intended to be successful and sustainable. The organization of this workshop at the Scientific School of Education also reflects the pivotal role of this institution as a cornerstone in the training of education sector professionals, including teachers, inspectors, teacher training school staff, and laboratory technicians.

He emphasized that this activity is part of the reform of higher education through the adoption of a comprehensive approach to reforming the higher education system, including new measures to improve the guidance and scholarship allocation process and others to continue increasing the absorption capacity of institutions and promoting decentralization through the creation of new institutions within the country in new fields of specialization.

He explained that this reform approach will be implemented this year through guidance and scholarships with the official launch of the guidance platform, which will take place in the near future.

The Director General of the Higher School of Education pointed out that the group of experts participating in this workshop, consisting of higher education professors and secondary education inspectors, will work on designing programs that serve the direction approved by the Ministry, which is to adopt the bachelor's, master's, and doctorate systems in the new training tracks scheduled to be implemented at the beginning of the academic year 2024-2025 academic year at the Higher School of Education, which reveals the magnitude of the task entrusted to this team and the results expected from its work to establish a professional training system that combines efficiency in performance and quality in outcomes.

The inauguration was attended by officials from the education sector and the reform of the education system, higher education, and scientific research.
