His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Yacoub Ould Amin Zoual, paid a field visit on Monday to some of the university and service institutions affiliated with his sector, marking the official start of the new academic year.
The Minister's visit included the Faculty of Medicine, the new university complex, the boys' residence, and the health and social services at the National Center for University Services.
During these various stops on the visit, His Excellency listened to detailed explanations about the measures taken to prepare for the opening of the 2024/2025 academic year, the level of enrollment and attendance on the first day of the opening, and ways to improve the quality of higher education and university services during the current academic year.
At the end of the visit, His Excellency the Minister, in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, praised the efforts made by the President of the University of Nouakchott, the deans, the academic staff, the registration services, and the National Center for University Services for their effective preparation for the new academic year. at all stages from registration to teaching, which resulted in students receiving lessons on the first day of the opening and the largest lecture hall being filled with students. In this context, he pointed out that the factors for the success of the academic year begin with good preparation, culminating in the start of classes on the first day of the academic year, which will contribute to improving students' scientific knowledge and raising their levels.
His Excellency the Minister affirmed that there is a new trend among the higher authorities to improve the conditions of higher education, modernize it, and raise its level to respond to the economic and developmental requirements of the country.
He explained that the university will see an improvement in its performance and productivity in the future, given the expansion of its buildings and the use of the new university complex this year. He added that national universities are now ready to welcome 34,000 students for the first time in the country's history.
During his visit, the minister was accompanied by advisors and central directors from the ministry, the president and deans of the University of Nouakchott, and the director general of the National Center for University Services.
